Old city maps are like time machines—they offer a visual record of a city’s memory, frozen in ink and paper. They show us what a place looked like before highways, shopping centers, or even paved roads. They reveal old street names, neighborhoods that have disappeared, and sometimes even who owned which plot of land. These maps help tell the story of how a city grew, shifted, and changed over the years. They’re useful for historians, family researchers, and anyone curious about what used to be.  It’s a way to connect the past to the present—and sometimes even solve a local mystery.

We’re gathering old maps of Westbrook and will begin scanning them soon. Keep an eye on this space as we continue to build a digital archive of Westbrook’s past, one map at a time.
