Nathan Harris House
The Nathan Harris House, located at 425 Main Street in Westbrook, Maine, is believed to have been built in 1828. Deb Shangraw, the vice president of the Westbrook Historical Society, is the driving force behind its restoration. The project is exciting – the work is ongoing and extensive.
Months of research resulted in detailed information – pieces to the puzzle about who the Harris family was. It also led to partnering with decendants and the sharing of vital information.
When the research is completed we will publish it into booklet that will be available to purchase.
Saccarappa Cemetery and the Gravesite of Nathan Harris and Family
Nathan Harris was a trader, teacher, successful real estate dealer, and businessman. In 1828, he purchased a house and land for $175.00 from Aaron Winslow. The house still stands today.
Nathan lived there with his wife, Rebekah, and their children. Their young daughter, Addeline, died at two years of age in 1832. Three years later his wife died. He later remarried and died at 47 years old in 1847.
In 1991, the ” Harris House” was purchased and while performing renovations several hand painted murals were found while removing wallpaper.
In 2023, the house and property was donated to the Westbrook Historical Society.
